Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department to Receive Grant for Critical Life-Saving Equipment
    The Treiber Group LLC and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company Award $38,165 Grant

• Four “Ice Commander” full-body rescue suits to enable rescue personnel to safely enter frigid waters in the Long Island Sound
• Four sets of turnout gear, the protective clothing worn by firefighters and rescue workers to mitigate the risk of injury or exposure to hazards encountered while responding to an emergency
• 20 facemasks that connect to air cylinders to make up the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) unit, which is worn on a firefighter’s back and provides breathable air when firefighters’ surroundings are contaminated with smoke and hazardous materials
• Six life-saving “pass” devices that sound an audible alarm when a firefighter becomes incapacitated and remains motionless for a period of time
• 20 pagers alerting firefighters of an alarm and to respond to fire headquarters, along with seven hand held radios that allow effective communication among all department personnel

“Along with receiving numerous calls to respond to fires, vehicular accidents, and other types of emergency calls, we also undertake rescue operations in the Long Island Sound,” stated Dave Spy, Fire Chief of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department. “This generous grant has allowed us to purchase essential life-saving equipment that enhances our firefighter capabilities. Thanks to The Treiber Group and Fireman’s Fund, we will have resources that help protect the lives of our firefighters, residents and the businesses in our community.”

The Treiber family has a longstanding relationship with the City of Glen Cove and continues to support the community through, among other things, the distribution of generous grants. Treiber funding created a residential cottage for developmentally challenged children at SCO Family of Services, as well as a meditation garden at Episcopal Church, where the Treiber family has worshipped for many years. In addition, Treiber was a major contributor in the creation of the Treiber Family Recreation Center at the City’s YMCA.

“The Treiber family, through our insurance agency and thanks to the Fireman’s Fund Heritage program, is able to continue our commitment to the City of Glen Cove,” stated Scott Treiber, Agency Division President for The Treiber Group LLC, whose family has a longstanding history of supporting Glen Cove. “I can’t think of a better way to give back to a community than by supporting a volunteer fire department.”

The grant was funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, a premier property and casualty insurance company that also provides grants to fire departments through its Fireman’s Fund HeritageSM program. Under the program, local agencies like The Treiber Group LLC are able to direct grants to support local fire departments and the communities they serve.
